This was a project I did several years ago in an art class at school as part of our unit on felting. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, the dyed wool is arranged in a design or picture over a lightweight mesh. Then, the whole thing is felted together by drenching it in Ivory soap and water and carefully rubbing it to interlock the fibers. I was surprised at how accurate the picture still looked after the felting, because sometimes it can become distorted with the rubbing. At the time, I was slightly obsessed with manatees and underwater scenes, so most of my art from that year is somehow nature- and/or manatee-related.
